Planetary gearboxes

BJ-Gear A/S works with several manufacturers of planetary gearboxes. The advantage of planetary gearboxes is that you can obtain a high torque compared to the size of the gearbox.

Due to the compact design of the gearbox you achieve a high gear ratio in a limited space. This gives the gearbox a low weight compared to other types of gearboxes with the same gear ratio.

Because of the structure of the gearboxes they are able to withstand high radial and axial loads. The design of the planetary gearbox furthermore has the advantage that several gears share the load between them, which gives the gearbox a high efficiency and a longer service life.

As an integral part of the solution, the planetary gearbox is adapted to your specific needs. This means that the input shaft and motor flange are adapted to fit your engine specifically.

The planetary gearboxes are an obvious choice for positioning tasks, solutions with a servomotor, and other solutions where precision is important. The gearboxes are available as right angle planetary gearboxes.

We also offer solutions where planetary gearboxes are mounted with our own worm gearboxes, helical gearboxes or as first step in our actuators.

We offer planetary gearboxes with the following specifica-tions:

  • Gear ratio: 3:1 to 200:1.
  • 1, 2 or 3 steps.
  • Output torque: From 9 to 2,000 Nm.
  • Backlach: Available for precision gearboxes down to 1 arc min.

Why do planetary gearboxes have a high efficiency and a long service life?

The gears in a planetary gearbox are often subjected to a smaller load than other types of gear-boxes.

Because there are several contact surfaces between the different components of the gear, a larger area can distribute the weight evenly around the shaft. Thus, the load is divided between several gears.

This gives the planetary gearbox a high efficiency, makes the gearbox resistant to damage at a higher torque, and gives the gearbox a longer life span in general.
